TIPS FOR TRAVELLING ON A PLANE

When you hear these words of salty snacks it’s no clue that we are referring to some of your travels by plane. If you are travelling an international trip then yes most likely the plane is your first option, however if you’re travelling a domestic flight such as from Buffalo to New York City,  a short plane ride might still be an option saving you time and gas money. Here are some helpful tips when flying:

UPGRADE YOUR SEAT

Before you even pack your bag be sure to book your flight well in advance. We say this because flights costs can soar the closer to your travelling date. If you book your flight at least 3 months in advance you may be paying a more suitable price. Whether you are travelling alone or travelling with a spouse, friend or small children don’t be shy about upgrading your seat. Most airlines charge a fee for $99 to upgrade. In some cases, whether you have been a dedicated travel club member or a frequent flyer some upgrades can come for free or even at low rate such as $100. In other words consider the upgrade as overall it will elevate your entire vacation.

PACK LESS

You might have heard of that saying, ‘less is more’ in this case less is definitely a yes when travelling. Whether you have a one hundred pairs of shoes or 10 cozy sweaters, be smart about packing your travel bag. We suggest doing the research for the type of weather you might be expecting in advance. If you are travelling to NYC, Toronto and Niagara Falls, Ontario in the Fall then it is suggested to bring light jackets, sweatshirts, a hat, long pairs of paints and a scarf. Scarves are great because they are easy to fold and can be used easily at any time.

DIRECT OR INDIRECT THAT IS THE QUESTION

Travelling to a direct destination can alleviate a lot of trouble especially when flying internationally. When selecting an indirect flight you often take the chance being stuck in a layover or put on another flight. If you’re anxious about your trip then we suggest taking a direct flight. It might cost you a bit more money, but will save you time when travelling. If you are one who prefers a layover for a chance to stretch your feet, meet new people and explore a secondary city then choosing an indirect flight might not be such a bad thing.

TRAIN, BUS AND TAXI TIPS

If your travels find you on a train, bus or car then we suggest reading some of our tips when travelling on the road.

STOCK UP ON GOODIES

When travelling by bus you sometimes don’t know if the bus has a washroom onboard, if there is a washroom break or how long you might be travelling for. It’s always best to stock up either at the airport or local convenience store. Be sure to pack lots of water, tylenol, granola bars and perhaps a crossword puzzle or game.

TALK TO LOCALS

One the best things about travelling on a bus, train or taxi gives you the opportunity to have a conversation with others. It allows you to get to know what the locals are like, what they do and where the best spots to go. Sometimes meeting the locals whether it be the driver of taxi cab or a commuter to work could be a highlight of your trip as they provide inside access to saving you as the traveller time and money.

CARRY SMALL CHANGE IN POCKETS

You will meet a lot of hospitality service staff that might require a small gratuity. For instance it could be the driver who drove you from the airport to your hotel, a coffee shop barista or a bellman. It’s always best to have small change in your pockets or purse to provide as a small gesture. They will appreciate it!

BRING A MAP OF THE CITY

When travelling to Niagara Falls and Toronto it is best to carry a map with you during your adventures. The city is filled with many attractions that it can become quite easy to find yourself lost. So if you don’t want to feel like a small fish in a big city and prefer to not ‘go-with-the-flow’ then we recommend picking up a map at a local convenience store, hotel lobby or tourism information centre. The Ontario Tourism Information Centre offers brochures, coupons and maps. There are many Ontario Tourism Information Centres when travelling from Toronto to Niagara Falls, Ontario and can be found off the highways or throughout the Niagara Region.

NEVER PACK YOUR CAMERA IN YOUR SUITCASE

This is big no-no for a few reasons. No one likes travelling 2,200 miles to find out their camera isn’t working. Pack your camera case over the shoulder and pull it out when travelling by bus, train or taxi because you never know what sights you will see that you might not have a chance to tour or pass by.
